About

The Artist

Louise is a FOLK artist and photographer, she paints on Tin and Canvas using Gouache and Acrylic. Louise was born in Oakland, California, her favorite subject of portrait was inherited from her Grandfather, Walter Frank Whipple 1877-1936, who was a stage and screen star who taught Lon Chaney how to mix and apply make up. Louise grew up in the Mexican-American community of Decoto, California, now Union City in Fremont. She married into a Mexican family who had come from Southern Mexico. All this influenced the subject matter of her art. She's inspired to paint the scenes of Mexican life, men, woman and children in profile using the classical bright and rich colors of Mexico. Gouache is similar to water color which is transparent while gouache is opaque. It's a very old medium and dates back to the 14th century. Louise is retired, now living in a beautiful fishing village in Ajijic, Mexico. Get in touch
